We are known to have open skies 2/3 of the year with dry and extreme temperatures. This is harsh on our vehicle batteries, so this Hood Solar panel has become such a great addition to my rig.\n\nThe Panels and controller came in package extremely well. I've had solar panels in the past and parts damaged due to poor packaging...Lensun went the exra mile to make sure everything was protected. \n\nCables and connections are well made. I did not see any blemishes or defects. These came with the standard MC4 Solar connectors so came with extensions (which I didn't expect). \n\nThe vinyl was also well packaged with no tears. The controller was also good quality with all the cables in great shape. The Load wires were covered and the adhesive tapes included were high quality.\n\nConnection was easy and was done in easily. The longest part of the install was allowing the vinyl to set and the panels to set to dry. I waited the next day before I finished the install. \nI'd say it was a total of around 2 hours to finish.\n\nHow does it perform?\nThe app conveniently shows the current charge and load of the starter battery and how much sun is being absorbed. \nEasy to read and quick to connect via Bluetooth.\nYou can also see the amount of power absorbed from the panels, the amount of load from the battery, and all current information in real time.\n\nI'm impressed! I would not appreciate finding a dead battery when returning at the end of a hike.\n\nApparently my new truck uses alot of power in standby. Walking past the vehicle with the key fob will even wake it (15 amps). A true dormant stand-by power use reading is a bit tricky, leave the engine hood open, sneak up on the truck without key fob, without opening doors, or any action which might wake the vehicle up. The observed dormant power to the fuse box power draw is substantial (1.2 amps). No one at the dealership seemed to know what the dormant stand-by power consumption should be. Now, with the solar battery tender, the Auto Start Stop is working for the first time. Apparently, the alternator/battery was constantly working to reach fully charged state before allowing Auto Stop Start. My one year old truck battery was suddenly dead one morning. This is when I also discovered the 2024 Ford Expedition Timberline has no voltage/charging gauge/idiot light in the dash screen. I was surprised by how much power I got from the panel. On a sunny day I have been getting up to 94 watts. That’s very close to the laboratory max of 110w. I have used it on several camping trips now. I have if charging my Anker SOLIX C2000 Gen2 Portable Power Station when sitting in camp. It keeps the battery topped off which is running an Iceco Portable refrigerator. The wiring was easy to install and the panel is easy, as look as you watch the videos first if see how to not mess up the install.
