Lensun 30W flexible solar panel installed on the Cabriolet sports car

Thanks for Bob shared his installation pictures of Lensun 30W flexible solar panel. He put the solar panel on the Cabriolet sports car to charge the battery when the car is not being driven.

The following is Bob’s description of his installation.

“ I have received the 30W Solar Panel and I have tried it temporarily. I am very plesaed with it so far and it is to replace a much larger and heavier 25W Aluminium & Glass Sunsei Solar Panel intended for a Caravan, but made about 15 years ago and with not such good technology in those days.

It is for a Cabriolet sports car that is only used for a few weeks each year for our holidays, and the Panel must be placed inside the car on the top of the dash-board pad and is illuminated through a tinted glass windscreen which naturally always reduces the efficiency of any Solar Panel greatly.

In addition to the OEM security system and the usual onboard ECU computer memories, the car has a Clifford aftermarket Security System that has features including Proximity Warning Sounds, Anti Hijack, Tilt, Engine Immobiliser, Alarm, and a separate satellite Tracker System. Also, a comprehensive and powerful In-Car Entertainment System, which for all items together draws a standing current of 110 to 120 milli-Amps continuously, when the car is not being driven.

I am very pleased that this new panel is much smaller than the Sunsei Solar Panel and so light in weight and easy to move in and out of the car when needed but also quite strong.

Over this weekend I will finish the wiring installation permanently which will include a necessary Regulator to ensure that in hot summer times the battery is not overcharged. This will require some modifications and an inline switch in the output cable because the Car's Battery must always be connected BEFORE the Panel to avoid damaging the Regulator, and the cable now fitted cannot be detached from the PaneI unfortunately.”

“I am still waiting for an inline cable switch for this installation before it is finished, but I wish to protect the eges of the panel which are quite sharp and rough, and my dasboard top could be scratched taking the panel out of the car each time it is driven.

Would there be any problem if I very carefully removed the corners of the panel just inside the metal rings like this picture shows please, avoiding any printed circuit pattern on the panel.

It would be a much nicer installation and the rubber edging section I have bought would lie flat on the panel then unlike now which you can see is kinked-up.”
